Video: The Best Way to Cook a Steak. Period. (Really?)

There are so many articles and videos, not to mention cook book recipes, about how to cook “the best steak possible.” But is there really a best way to cook a steak. I simply don’t know. Here, on our site, we have two videos, one from White Oak Pastures and one from Gordon Ramsey that you can see here and that illustrate how a couple of first-class chefs cook steak.

Generally, I’d say, these illustrate the ways that a majority of folks cook steaks today. But when we speak of “today” we’re also speaking of a world where technology is making inroads everywhere, and cooking is one of the places where technology is gaining an ever greater foothold. The video below from ChefSteps.com shows how to cook a steak using the sous vide method. If you haven’t heard of sous vide yet, here’s a definition:

What is sous vide?

Sous vide is a simple cooking technique in which food is cooked in precisely controlled, low-temperature water. Because the food can never get hotter than the water, under- or overcooking is almost impossible.

The thing is, you’ll need a Joule cooker for about $200.00 (and a free phone app to go with it) to use the sous vide method illustrated in this video. But how do you cook the best steak ever in water? Well, it turns out that it’s not just water, but after the water comes the cooking of the outside — frying, searing, whatever you like to do.

So the bottom line is that instead of using your old cast iron pan and taking about 10 minutes, you can get a great tasting steak using your $200 Joule, and then your old cast iron pan, and you can finish this great steak in about an hour instead of 10 minutes.Does that sound crazy to you? After you watch the video, please leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

But regardless of the way you decide to cook your steak, unless you start with a great steak like our Tennessee Grass Fed steaks, you’re not going to get the best steak ever. So when you feel like you want a steak, just hop over here to buy one of the best tasting steaks you’ve ever eaten.

Now, watch the video and see what you think.
